事实上，取消英语作为高考主科的地位，并不意味着将英语从高考中取消，而是改变其作为一般主科的地位。例如，笔者坚决主张“取消英语主科地位”。我个人认为英语可以像生物、地理、政治、化学一样作为选修科目。有项目要求；英语150分的主科地位也可以降低到100分；多种英语水平测试甚至可以在高中使用，高校在招生时针对不同专业设置不同的英语应用级别等，都是英语科目高考录取形式的最佳去处。
毕竟，英语作为外语科目只是高考六门外语科目之一，并不是完全不可替代的。除英语外，高考外语还包括日语、法语、俄语、德语和西班牙语。我们不能总是说，为了保住英语的地位，就应该取消其他外语科目在高考中的地位吗？既然是外语，就一定是可选的，而不是所有人的必然选择。那种认为取消英语的主科地位就会让普通人站不住脚的说法，完全是诡辩。
据统计数据显示，目前以日语作为高考科目的高考学生主要集中在东部和中部地区，这也可以理解为高考竞争最激烈的地区。据称，广东高考日语考生人数已超过9万人，山东也超过7万人，江西也超过4万人。这是日语高考考生人数排名前三的省份。其次是江苏、四川、贵州三省。此外，浙江、湖南、湖北、河南、安徽、福建、重庆、广西、云南等省市的日语高考学生人数也出现规模增长。人数已经有一万多人了。
据网友统计，目前我国高中生中，选择学习日语的人数已达160万以上，与日本的150万、120万相比，仍处于快速发展阶段。前两年。据教育部公布的普通高中师资统计，2022年我国普通高中英语教师30.8万人，日语教师达到5025人，占外语教师的1.63%。俄语教师数量已达1265人等，日语教师数量较2016年增加了659%，俄语教师数量也增加了257%，比英语20.4%的增幅高出数十倍老师们。
2024年高考，天津市报考日语、法语、德语、西班牙语、俄语考试的人数为220人，占高考总人数的0.3%；广西桂林市2024年日语高考报名人数为199人，占总数的1.83%；陕西汉中市南郑区日语考生22人，占比1.21%。遗憾的是，笔者无法搜索到更多关于2024年高考日本考生人数的信息，尤其是在日语普及的地区，没有透露详细信息。
